A Great Day of Note for the West Lancashire Mark Master Masons.

Provincial Grand Chapter Meeting Wednesday 10th April 2013, the Guild Hall, Preston.

The meeting was opened at 2.45 pm in the bowl like surroundings of the Guild Hall, Preston by E. Comp Peter Hosker the Grand Superintendent. He thanked all for attending and for their support during his years as Grand Superintendent. Following this the Acting Grand Director of Ceremonies announced the arrival of the Second Grand Principal George Pipon Francis who by right demanded entrance to the meeting, the 'retinue' of Grand Chapter officers, accompanying the 2nd Grand Principal were E.Comp Thomas Holroyd PAGSoj, EComp.William Seddon PAGSoj ( PAssPrGM,Craft), E.Comp Brian Jackson PGSwdB (PastDepGSupt) and our very own E. Comp Peter Connolly PAGSoj they were duly received to loud acclaim and welcomed by Peter Hosker.

ProvGStdB (Acting Dep.DC), E.Comp Peter Hosker, Provincial Grand Supterintendant,
E.Comp. George Pipon Francis, 2nd Grand Principal & E.Comp. Peter Connolly P.A.G.Soj. (Mark PGM).
A little later in the proceedings the GSupt Peter Hosker invited Peter Connolly as RW Prov GM of the Mark Province of West Lancashire to address the Prov G Chapter.

Peter Connolly duly took to the stage and said " ME G Supt I thank you for this courtesy extended to me, Companions, on behalf of the Mark Masons of West Lancashire I am delighted to present the ME Grand Supt with a cheque for the Supreme Grand Chapter bi-centenary appeal for the Royal College of Surgeons: to show Mark Masons ' attachment to this order of the Holy Royal Arch."

The G Supt thanked Peter Connolly and the Mark masons of West Lancashire for their generous support; he then announced that the donation was for £ 5,000, which was met with acclaim by the Companions present. Continuing on Peter Hosker said “the announcement of the 2013 Appeal gave him some cause for concern, particularly as it came on the heels of the 2010 Festival for the Masonic Samaritan Fund, and that he was of course not forgetting that even in a recession, where the north has been especially affected by the economic downturn, the Province is still able to dig deep and give generously. I am able to report that already the funds raised by this Province for the 2013 Appeal are very substantially in excess of £50,000 suggested target particularly following the contribution from Peter Connolly (Provincial Grand Master of the Mark Province of West Lancashire) who donated £5,000 from his Order to the appeal”.

Our PGM as always leads from the front, it was a delight to see him deliver his speech and place the donation, especially in the surroundings of the Holy Royal Arch, could we ask for anyone finer to lead this wonderful “Happy Degree”, I think not.
